Case Discussion

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a special type of breast carcinoma that is characterized by the same features seen in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland and at other sites. The distinctive feature is the dual-population of cells, including true glandular spaces and basal-myoepithelial-cell lined pseudolumina. The glandular cell population tends to be CD117 positive. While usually negative for ER, PgR, and HER2, adenoid cystic carcinoma is associated with favourable prognosis and is usually considered treated after complete excision.
