Head and Neck, Squamous cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the head and neck, with most occurring in the oral cavity. Although traditionally, this disease is associated with chronic smoking and alcohol, in this case no known risk factor was identified. The tumour is a large exophytic fungating mass on the left alveolar ridge of the maxilla. The specimen is a partial maxillectomy, followed by radiation. Microscopically, invasion of the tumour into bone can be seen.
