The patient had a prior resection for a vascular lesion.
Case Discussion
Hemangioma is a benign tumour arising from endothelial cells and often presents and a congenital red birthmark. They can spontaneously involute with age. Sections show fragments of fibroadipose tissue with many scattered small vessels totally replaced by fibrosis and microcalcifications, and a few others surrounded by thickened membranes with a small or pin point lumen. There is focal fat necrosis with histiocytic and giant cell reaction. The findings are consistent with hemangioma showing extensive involution.
