Case Discussion

Pilar cysts are common, benign cutaneous lesions. Proliferating or malignant cysts may arise from these lesions, albeit rarely. Simple excision usually suffices for these generally asymptomatic lesions.

The cyst is lined by squamous epithelium and is lacking the granular layer. In contrast, the granular layer is intact in epidermoid cysts.
