Case Discussion

Superficial fibromatosis typically occurs in three locations - palm (Dupuytren's contracture), soles (Ledderhose disease) and penis (Peyronie disease). Superficial fibromatosis is a proliferation of myofibroblasts, giving rise to a poorly circumscribed tumour, with vague fascicular architecture. The myofibroblasts from long, "sweeping" fascicles, a pattern that is characteristic in both superficial and deep (desmoid-type) fibromatosis. While nuclear beta-catenin can be seen in superficial fibromatosis, they lack mutations of CTNNB1 (beta-cetenin) or APC genes, suggesting that superficial and deep fibromatoses are genetically distinct entities.See related content for reference.
