Benign adrenocortical rest in ovary
Clinical History

Salpingoophorectomy for ovarian cyst, small yellow nodule noted on gross examination and sampled.

Case Discussion

Ectopic adrenal cell rest can be found anywhere in the genitourinary tract, most commonly around the kidneys and retroperitoneum, in paratesticular tissue in males and, rarely in fallopian tubes and ovaries in females.

Grossly they are well-circumscribed yellow nodules of variable sizes. Histologically, three layers of the adrenal cortex are present without medullary cells.

It is usually an incidental finding with no clinical significance. This patient had a salpingoophorectomy for mature cystic teratoma, adrenocortical rest was an incidental finding.
