Case Discussion
Meckel’s diverticulum represents ileal outpouching due to persistence of the congenital vitelline (omphalo-mesenteric) duct. It is a true diverticulum, i.e. composed of all layers, as can be seen here. Gastric mucosa is commonly seen, and this specimen nicely shows the two types of mucosa.
