Case Discussion

Carcinoma of the endometrium most commonly affects postmenopausal women 55 to 65 years of age. Endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium is the most common malignancy of the uterine endometrium. Endometrioid tumours are graded according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Grading System:

Grade 1: 5% or less nonsquamous solid growth pattern
Grade 2: 6% to 50% nonsquamous solid growth pattern
Grade 3: >50% nonsquamous solid growth pattern

Up to 20% of endometrioid adenocarcinomas of the endometrium show squamous differentiation. This can be helpful in determining the subtype of an endometrial adenocarcinoma.
