Long-standing ulcerative colitis patient now undergoes total colectomy.
Case Discussion
Long-standing ulcerative colitis is a risk factor for colon cancer, and when endoscopic findings suggest dysplasia, colectomy may be considered. Grossly, patches of "velvety" growth can be seen. In this case, the findings were not definite for dysplasia. However, abundant reactive epithelial changes can be seen in the microscopic sections.
