Ulcerative colitis not responding to medical treatment.

Case Discussion

In this colon, the active and chronic inflammation is so extensive that the mucosa has large islands of regenerating mucosa with the formation of numerous mucosal bridges. These large inflamed mucosal strands are inflammatory polyps. Because these polyps are non-neoplastic, they have also been called "pseudopolyps". Microscopically, there are abundant inflammatory cells and the mucosal growth shows architectural distortion indicative of chronic colitis.
