Right breast fungating mass, circumscribed, 20 cm.

Case Discussion

Malignant phyllodes tumours are fibroepithelial neoplasms with malignant stromal growth. Criteria for malignancy included stromal overgrowth, stromal hypercellularity, stromal cell atypia, mitotic activity, and invasive tumour borders. In this case, areas of osteoid and cartilage with malignant cells can be seen.

Shown here is the presence of both stromal overgrowth and a fibroepithelial component. Both chondroid and osteoid elements are also present in this slide.
