Right breast lumpectomy in a 50-year old patient who noticed skin dimpling. Speculated mass on mammography.

Case Discussion

This is an example of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) with prominent tubular features (Nottingham grade I/III). While this may be an added qualifier appropriate in the microscopic description, it is important to distinguish this entity from "tubular carcinoma". While numerous tubular structures are present, "tubular carcinoma" is a low-grade tumour, associated with better prognosis and Rosen’s triad (combination of columnar cell hyperplasia, lobular carcinoma in situ and tubular carcinoma).

This slide shows H&E stain. See related content for ER, PgR, and HER2 stains.

An example of Invasive Tubular Carcinoma can be seen in Case LMP64619 - Breast, Invasive Tubular Carcinoma (link in related content).
