Small Intestine, Simple Squamous Epithelium

A simple epithelium consists of a single layer of flattened cells in section. Simple squamous epithelium is often found at sites where transfer is by simple diffusion. The term endothelium refers to the simple squamous epithelium lining a vessel. The term mesothelium refers to that lining one of the closed body cavities (pleural, peritoneal and serous pericardial cavities). This is a section of small intestine. In it you will study the appearance of a simple squamous epithelium lining a capillary (in other words an endothelium).
