Skin, infantile hemangioma, GLUT1 stain

Infantile hemangioma is a common vascular tumour of infancy. The most common sites of involvement are skin and soft-tissue of face, head, and neck. In this excisional biopsy, there is a dermal proliferation of tightly packed capillaries growing in lobules that are separated by thin, fibrous bands. The endothelial cells are plump and some of them protrude into the lumen. This lesion extends to the resection margins.

Infantile hemangiomas are strongly immunoreactive for both CD31 (general vascular marker) and GLUT1 (suggesting hypoxia-driven pathogenesis.
