Case Discussion
There are a wide range of benign alterations in breast tissue that are not considered “normal histology”, but at the same time are not of clinical significance. One must recognize the full range of these to avoid the temptation to call these changes “atypical” or worse, malignant. This section, taken from a breast cancer case, illustrates some of these changes, including dense stromal fibrosis, benign apocrine cysts with calcifications, usual ductal hyperplasia, radial sclerosing lesion, and pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia.
