Case Discussion
Lymphocytic esophagitis is a type of chronic inflammation that can be seen in esophageal biopsies for dysphagia. This esophageal biopsy demonstrates intercellular edema and increased lymphocytic infiltrate (highest count 60/HPF). The lymphocytosis is concentrated in the parapapillary region. There is a lack of eosinophils and neutrophils. Such findings have been described as lymphocytic esophagitis in the literature. There is an association between lymphocytic esophagitis and Crohn’s disease in the pediatric population.
